Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Bobby Buka is passionate about the skin health and skin care of New Yorkers. Dr. Bobby Buka has developed a unique approach to providing dermatology services at The Dermatology Specialists, integrating the latest research with principles of holistic wellness into patient-centric treatment plans.
A graduate of the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Dr. Bobby Buka was immediately drawn to dermatology as an ever-expanding medical field that offers countless ways to help people love the skin they’re in. Whether he’s devising a fail-proof plan to cure even the most stubborn acne, helping patients age gracefully with customizable beauty services like botox, or taking the extra time to educate patients on best practices for skin cancer prevention, Dr. Bobby Buka enjoys every aspect of addressing everyday skin concerns while running New York City’s top dermatology practice.
After completing medical school, Dr. Bobby Buka completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. Shortly thereafter, he completed his residency at the University of California San Diego, followed by a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Children’s Hospital San Diego.
Dr. Bobby Buka opened his practice in June of 2007, and today oversees 40+ locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. At all TDS locations, patients receive the down-to-earth intimacy of a neighborhood doctor paired with the best treatments that cutting-edge medicine can offer. The goal of every TDS practitioner: Understand your skin story, not just your skin problem.
In an effort to avoid the typical sterile, fluorescent doctor’s office, Bobby Buka is personally involved in the interior design for all office locations – designed to allow for open, one-on-one communication. Patients will notice that every TDS office has a distinct flavor unique to its neighborhood. From the spa-chic energy of the Upper West Side to the hip-hop inspired Crown Heights office, common elements include vintage artworks, sliding doors, and colorful statement pieces.
A regular columnist for MindBodyGreen, Dr. Bobby Buka envisions the future of dermatology as moving away from pure medical, pharmacological dermatology and flowing toward a holistic approach to wellness and skincare. Instead of relying first and foremost on pharmaceuticals, he prefers to customize treatment plans for the most effective, least invasive strategy. His expertise has been featured not only in dermatology and plastic surgery textbooks and medical journals, but also on Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Huffington Post, Inside Edition, and in Health Magazine.
Dr. Bobby Buka actively promotes the importance of maintaining healthy skin. He served as contributing founder and chief science officer for First Aid Beauty, before its sale to P&G in 2018. He now serves as clinical spokesperson for several brands including Fig. 1 Beauty, Dune Sun Care, and Flakes for dandruff. The preferred dermatologist of cover models, professional athletes and New Yorkers everywhere, The Dermatology Specialists’ offices can be found across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens.
